Epiroc secures mining equipment order from Newmont in Australia

Oct 15, 2024

Epiroc, a Sweden-based equipment manufacturer, has secured an order from Newmont in Australia to deliver surface mining equipment.

The equipment will be used at the Boddington gold and copper mine in WA.

The Skr335m ($32.32m) order includes a fleet of Pit Viper 231 and SmartROC D65 drill rigs and is recorded in the third quarter of 2024.

The Pit Viper 231 rotary blasthole drill rig can be adapted for a variety of rotary and down-the-hole (DTH) drilling operations.

The SmartROC D65 rig can produce high-quality blastholes with great accuracy and precision.

Both types of equipment are said to be recognised for their robust construction, intelligent features and fuel efficiency.

Epiroc has agreed to provide service for these machines.

The new rigs, which are set to replace an older fleet of Epiroc equipment, will be operated tele-remotely, enhancing the efficiency and safety of mining operations.

Epiroc president and CEO Helena Hedblom said: “We have a long-standing partnership with Newmont.

“We are happy to support them as they continue to make their operations as safe and productive as possible.”

Delivery of the new fleet is set to begin immediately and will extend into H1 2025.

Newmont Boddington mine site general manager Chris Dark said: “Newmont and Epiroc have had a long-term relationship on the Boddington site.

“Together, we look forward to unlocking the long-term future of the Boddington site, which is recognised globally as a Tier 1 gold asset.”

In May this year, Epiroc agreed to acquire the remaining 66% stake in US-based ASI Mining for an undisclosed sum.

"Epiroc secures mining equipment order from Newmont in Australia" was originally created and published by Mining Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
